ABOUT CANAL CHEONG JAGERROOS

Canal Cheong Jagerroos 張彤茹 (b. 1968) is a Chinese renowned international visual artist who lives and works in Helsinki, Shanghai, Nice and Berlin. Canal Cheong Jagerroos is the Founder of ‘Floating Island’ Art project 2018 – 2023 and the Co-Founder of the Art Project ‘Blue and Red’ which will be showing in numerous museums in China and Finland from 2018 - 2020
In the past thirty years, Canal has enjoyed considerable success with over fifty worldwide solo and selected exhibitions to her credit; and won international recognition and acclaim for her unique works of fusing ancient Chinese motifs and contemporary elements.
Canal has lived and worked in numerous countries from Asia to Europe and Africa in the past two decades. The unique experience of having lived in such culturally diverse places, namely; Hong Kong, Shanghai, France, Switzerland, Italy, Senegal and Finland has influenced her artwork greatly whether consciously or subconsciously. Canal has discovered that walking the line between the east and west, facing different cultures, can be both constructive and destructive, but always inspirational.
Further more, Canal is an artist who expresses much cultural reflection in her works. She is well verses cultural reflection in the context of both Eastern and Western art, and via her artistic experiments, she has opened up a dialogue between different cultures. She deconstructs and reconstructs varies signs and symbols, combine contemporary elements and calligraphy to create a futuristic language of her own.
